Australian Photography Awards (APA) recognizes and celebrates Australian photographers and their work. This year’s winners have just been announced, and it’s a truly wonderful collection of images. They show us the touching, difficult, but also the beautiful side of living in this world at this time.

“In 2020 we received 5,800 entries across our 8 categories making this year the biggest and most diverse celebration of Australian photography yet,” said Tom Goldner, APA co-founder. It’s interesting that APA doesn’t select an overall winner, but there are category winners in these eight categories:

  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Documentary
  • Student
  • Animal/Wildlife
  • Open/Illustrative
  • Travel/Street
  • Junior – 13 and under

The contest focuses on original, artful, and creative work. They say that it’s not just about the technical quality, but more about “soulful photography” which has an important message that reflects our current times or reminds us of important events and movements in history. And this is exactly what the winning photos are like.

Other than winners, APA also awards second and third place winners in each of the categories Take a look at the rest of category winners below, and find more info on APA’s website and Photo Publicity.
