Panasonic has announced the LUMIX G100, a new compact mirrorless camera that’s designed for vlogging and creative video content.
“Intuitive controls, visually engaging images and excellent sound quality are hallmarks of the new LUMIX G100, raising the bar for content production and user experience in the vlog camera category,” Panasonic says. “Usability is further enhanced by its remarkably compact and lightweight design that doesn’t skimp on functionality and creative options.”
Inside the LUMIX G100 is a 4/3 sensor that can shoot 20-megapixel photos and 4K videos (at 30p and 24p) and 1080p video (at 60p). The sensor features a maximum sensitivity of ISO 25600 and lacks a Low Pass Filter for increased sharpness (at the expense of increased moiré).
If you have shaky hands, you’ll be glad to hear that the camera features a 5-axis hybrid I.S. (image stabilizer) system that lets you shoot stable video even while in motion.
Panasonic has included a new Video Selfie Mode that helps to capture both the selfie shooter and the background in sharp focus without having to manually adjust the aperture.
On the back of the camera is a 3-inch free-angle 1.84-million-dot screen that provides flexibility for how you point your camera to compose shots.
Panasonic is also announcing a new Tripod Grip (DMW-SHGR1) that makes it easier to hold G series cameras or to stabilize them (as a mini tripod). The grip connects via USB and can start/stop recording, trigger the shutter, and enable/disable sleep mode.
Other features of the G100 include Frame Marker (checking the composition of popular aspect ratios during recording), a RED Frame Indicator (for showing whether the camera is recording), high-quality spatial audio by Nokia’s OZO Audio (using 3 microphones), slow/quick-motion footage, timelapses, V-Log recording, 4K PHOTO (extracting images from footage), Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, AC/USB charging, and HDMI.
Here’s a short video introducing the new G100:
The Panasonic LUMIX G100 will be available at the end of July with a price tag of $698 when bundled with a Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH kit lens.
