How we research
Our gear comparisons are based on manufacturer specifications and manuals, compatibility information, reputable specialist sources, and documented user experiences. Owning or personally testing every product is not a requirement for a useful comparison. When we have not tested a product ourselves, we say so and avoid describing the article as hands-on testing.
Specifications, prices, availability, and firmware can change. Check the manufacturer’s current documentation and the retailer’s listing before buying. We revisit articles when we find a material error or a meaningful product change.
Photograph care and technical guidance
For preservation topics, we prefer guidance from libraries, archives, conservation institutes, and other qualified primary sources. A general article cannot diagnose an individual historic photograph. We identify situations that call for a professional conservator.
