Leica has just announced the latest addition to its M-series. The Leica M10 Monochrom is a specialized digital rangefinder camera and another black-and-white camera from Leica. It features a 40MP full-frame monochrome CMOS sensor and allows you to take high-quality black and white images.
The M10 Monochrom is based on the Leica M10-P, but it’s something like an upgrade of it. It features a higher-resolution sensor and a higher ISO range. It has a slimmer body, a dedicated ISO dial, touchscreen controls, a quiet mechanical shutter, and built-in Wi-Fi. Like other digital models, it connects wirelessly to the Leica FOTOS app on iOS and Android.
As for the monochrome 40MP CMOS sensor, it’s paired with the Maestro II image processor. These two combined promise to deliver a wide dynamic range and remarkable tonal rendering. They also enable enhanced sensitivity when working in low light.
The sensor omits an optical low-pass filter for improved sharpness and resolution. The Leica M10 Monochrom features the ISO range of 160-100,000, much higher than color M10 variants. This is because its sensor omits a color filter array (CFA), which offers the ability to only record monochromatic photos using only luminance values.
