DynaLite Inc.—a trusted professional lighting brand that has been around for over 50 years—has shut down. In a statement posted to the company’s website, CEO Peter Poremba announced that the company “has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and has closed it doors.”
The statement is short and anything-but-sweet.
“It is with sincere regret and a heavy heart that I announce that Dynalite Inc. has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and has closed it doors,” writes Poremba from Union, NJ. “For over 50 years, DynaLite has been providing lighting solutions for photographers […] Unfortunately, due to the current decline in the photography market, we have found it difficult to remain competitive.”

Though Poremba blames “the current decline in the photography market,” the reality might lie closer to “the current rise of affordable monolights” from companies like Godox/Flashpoint. The market is more crowded than ever, and DynaLite’s most successful and lucrative niche—arena sports photography—has been shrinking as the low-light capabilities of high-speed sports cameras has steadily improved.
As with previous company “downfalls” like this, it’s possible an investor will step in and keep it alive (think: Bowens); however, even if that happens, the DynaLite brand might only survive as yet another incarnation of Godox (think: Bowens).
Translation: if you still use DynaLite gear, we’d recommend picking up spare flash tubes and other accessories now before they disappear off store shelves for good.
