Lomography has just announced a brand new high-contrast black and white film stock for 35mm SLRs. The soon-to-be-released Fantôme Kino B&W ISO 8 35mm Film is being hailed as “a monochrome masterpiece” that originates from a roll of German cinematic production film.

While “monochrome masterpiece” might be a little much, this super-high contrast, low ISO monochrome film is certainly striking. Reminiscent of film noir, the third film in Lomo’s Kino B&W family can render gritty results on the street and dramatic results in the portrait studio.

Given the film’s extremely low speed, every pack will come with an Exposure & Development Guide that encourages users to shoot with a fast lens (at least f/1.4 to f/2.8), using the settings below depending on the ambient light available. Flash, and a light meter, are also highly recommended while you learn the ropes.

The panchromatic film can be developed by any film lab that offers standard black and white processing, or you can hand-develop your film using instructions also included in that document. Based on Lomography’s instructions and sample photos they provided, Kodak D96 or Compard R09 seem to yield the most balanced results, but your mileage may vary.

Here’s a look at some sample photos captured on the new Fantôme Kino ISO 8 film:
