The detailed first-person Nikon Z6 setup guide previously shown at this address was written for Photography Life. Photography Discover did not create its downloadable settings file or use the camera in the way that article described. We have removed the reproduced instructions and old retailer links. Read the original Recommended Nikon Z6 Settings guide at Photography Life for its author’s setup and explanations.
Start with your own firmware and manual
Before copying anyone’s menu choices or loading a settings file, confirm the exact camera model and firmware shown in your Z6 menus. Settings can change across firmware versions and the Z6, Z6 II and Z6 III are different cameras. Use Nikon’s Z6 Download Center to find the official reference manual and the software information for the original Z6. Follow Nikon’s instructions for your camera and computer.
Build settings around the photograph
Decide whether you are photographing still subjects, movement or video before changing focus, shutter and ISO settings. Take a few test frames and inspect focus and exposure on your own files. Save a record of the settings you change so that you can return to a known starting point. Our exposure triangle guide explains how the main exposure controls interact.
This page is a route to the original author and Nikon’s documentation, not a substitute for the full menu guide and not a report of our own camera use.
